Five journalists among 20 killed in Israeli strike on Gaza hospital
- abdusco 1y ago> In a statement, the Israeli military says it “regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such". I guess they were targeting supposed Hamas operatives being treated in an operating room. It's too bad that five journalists were there. They are very sorry that journalists' bodies got in the way of the bomb. https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cn725ny0ryjt?post=asset%3Abdd2514b-70f8-46b4-9511-0c67944b9d1f#post https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cn725ny0ryjt?post=asset%3Abdd2...
- tguvot 1y agothey spotted some kind of optics following troops. hamas teams frequently have cameramen to film hits or remote controlled cameras in general for surveillance. also sniper rifle reflections and camera optics reflections at large distance looks similiar. edit: few days ago they identified somebody who put camera on external stairs of hospital near roof and followed troops. troops got attacked a few times. they asked for approval to take whoever it is down. approval was given but it was conditioned to use "light munition" to prevent too much damage. from some reason was used heavier munition. currently they investigate why orders weren't followed.
- abdusco 1y agoThose "mistakes" and insubordinations are somehow _very_ convenient for Israel's agenda. Apparently one strike isn't enough for the army that can perform point strikes against scientists in Iran, they "fumble" and bomb a hospital, then do it again and bomb the people who rush in to help. The last witnesses who are able to expose the extent of unimaginable cruelty are being threatened, targeted and killed off.
- therobots927 1y agoReplying to your other comment here. I don't know if you've noticed but the article we were both commenting on was flagged. I know this is a trend on HN and am wondering if you're aware of a specific policy that forbids articles on international issues of public interest.
- abdusco 1y agoI know about the policy, but some of them get a hold and get unflagged. I'm just hoping to raise awareness.
- therobots927 1y agoI'm just saying I'm not aware of the guideline that the article violated. It seems to me like there is a suppression campaign on any discussion of the subject at hand.
- tguvot 1y agoin desert storm 17% of USA casualties (and 35% of fatal) were due to friendly fire usa famously bombed MSF hospital and canadian troops in afganistan. france bombed wedding idf in gaza also has a lot of casualties due to friendly fire. i think at some point of time it was around 30% the bottom line: combat/war at enemy territory it's not same as shopping in costco at weekend.
- NomDePlum 1y agoThis was the deliberate targeting of a hospital. They then deliberately bombed the same spot as rescuers went to help. It's not excusable and certainly can't be explained away. Israel has deliberately and repeatedly targeted hospitals, journalists and civilians. At some point hopefully enough of those carrying out these deliberate acts are tried to ensure that never again is this tolerated.

- bbqfog 1y agoIsrael literally bombed a hospital then double tap killed the rescue crew and the journalists covering the original war crime, and it's all on video for anyone to see.
- tguvot 1y agoyes. i literally wrote that they bombed a hospital after they followed up somebody who was suspected as hamas spotter with cameras for a few days. they used different ammo than they were approved to, and now there is investigation in same hospital a couple of dozens of israeli hostages were kept for a while. at same hospital IDF arrested in past around 100 hamas members who were hiding. in area where combatants frequently crossdress, it's hard to know who is who [0] https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/12/middleeast/israel-strike-armed-group-posing-aid-workers-latam-intl https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/12/middleeast/israel-strike-arme...

- dang 1y ago> Your entire population are IDF terrorists. Valid targets. Wtf? You can't do this here. That ought to be obvious, regardless of your views on the underlying topic. We've banned the account. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html Someone posting the way you have about war crimes ought not to be advocating them.
- asdefghyk 1y agoThe military, which said its troops carried out a strike in the area of Nasser Hospital, said it “regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such.” Israeli media reported that Israeli troops fired two artillery shells at the hospital, targeting a Hamas surveillance camera on the roof.
- bigyabai 1y ago> and does not target journalists as such A palid lie, as anyone with access to the data knows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_the_Gaza_war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_... The only other way that many journalists could die in one war is if there was a genocide taking place.
- 1832764323 1y agoYes, a blatant war crime.
- 1832764323 1y agoThe IDF terror apologists are trying hard to defend the indefensible. I notice them brigading every thread that discusses their war crimes.

- 1832764323 1y agoWhy would I spread Israeli hasbara? Hamas are righteous freedom fighters, hospitals and journalists are never valid targets and a camera is not a weapon. Tel Aviv should be bombed though. I would vote for that. I want my tax dollars back too.
- asdefghyk 1y agoRE ".... hospitals and journalists are never valid targets ...." According to the laws of warfare they are under certain conditions. Like if enemy fighters and/or their military assets being at the hospital. My GUESS is the camera was recorded spying on Activities of Israel military ..... Is this another example of Hamas sacrificing gaza people? Why not Hamas use a drone to spy on Israel military .....?

- ImPostingOnHN 1y agoClose: 1. Has there been any independent verification of combatant "use" of the hospital? (No) 2. Has there been any independent judgement that any "use" justified the killing of so many innocent civilians: doctors, rescuers, journalists, etc.? (No) 3. Is it moral to knowingly kill so many innocent civilians: doctors; rescuers; journalists; etc, just because doing so makes it easier for you to kill somebody you unconvincingly claim was a combatant and unconvincingly claim was launching attacks from there? (No)
