I’m glad to see folks moving off Xitter. But this feels like just repeating the same mistake by moving to a VC-funded centralized platform. What prevents ActivityPub from being technically sufficient—or is this just the network effect in action?
- krapp 1y agoIt's the network effect in action - most people just wanted "Twitter without Elon's bullshit" and Bluesky provided that. Mastodon is great but most of the arguments for using Mastodon over Bluesky are honestly arguments most people don't care about, and the Mastodon community can be aggressive and hostile to newcomers, which is great for sustaining a community and preserving your culture against Eternal September but not great for onboarding new people.
