Email is no big deal, I used to have email with my own domain accounts, now that I changed registrar I decided 2 years ago to separate duty and I am using migadu of which I am satisfied.
I am installing mobile apps with accrescent, f-droid and aurora on grapheneos. There is a handful of apps I have never been able to install, because they are regionally limited and you have no control on regional accounts that aurora accounts use. I just live without them, no big deal. The service is usually provided by a web page anyway.
I am using an external cloud storage with wasabi as secondary backup site, I don't need any other cloud storage.
- HarshitDoshi 1y agoHow about apps which only have the option of signing in with Google or some other social / 3rd party provider? Do you also not use other services like Microsoft's, Apple's, Facebook (Meta)'s? How do you in that case sign in?
- __d 1y agoMost service providers support “sign in with email”. I’ve yet to find a service where no provider has this option.
- prmoustache 1y agoI don't know of any. Examples?
- chistev 1y agoSounds complications
- prmoustache 1y agoover what? Gmail is not easier than any other mail provider. Quite the contrary as traditionnal email providers are usually more user friendly. A store is a store. In my experience aurora is not more complicated than the google playstore. As for storage I don't think google drive is less complicated thant the competition. I don't need cloud storage anyway except from secondary backup site which would be stupid to use throguh google anyway even if I was using an account.
- chistev 1y agoYou don't need cloud storage? Where do you store your media?
- calgoo 1y agoNot OP, but I have a small Nas at home, and a small raspberry with owncloud with the drives mapped. I run it all behind tailscale so all my devices have access to everything from anywhere. Backups are being migrated but I have my home pc as a backup while switching providers.
- prmoustache 1y agoNAS at home, with a an old desktop machine working as local backup server. I have a cloud storage as secondary backup as mentionned earlier. Google drive/one would not be fit for that anyway as it is super expensive for very small amount of storage.
