Elons nazi salute will go down in history as one of the most expensive blunders.
Hes so dumb (and high on ket) that he did not understand 95% of his customer base are not maga nutjobs, but progressive democrats. This is even more evident in Europe.
- 4gotunameagain 1y agoOh I'm sure he understood that. He just thought that the combination of going all in on the other side + insane political leverage (which he managed to lose quite fast) would bring more profit than it would dissipate. Thankfully this turned out to not be true. If he ever gets investigated for the massive promotion(?) misinformation(?) propaganda(?) campaign he did for Trump to win, I'm gonna love it. And I used to like Elon. Such a shame.

- watwut 1y agoHe did. And yes we have seen the video. He hailed his far right friends and thought he is going to get away with it due to "Roman salute" nonsense. And his track record is such that proximity to far right is evident not just in that salute.
- itsoktocry 1y agoThe fact that you think "his far right friends" are actual Nazis and were in awe to see this salute is comic level stuff. The left lives in absolute fairy tale land, it's amazing.
- watwut 1y agoIf it walks, looks, swim and quocks like a duck, it is a duck. The left predicted what this administration will do perfectly correctly. If anything, the left was completely correct about Republicans, conservatives, Musk and online edgelords for years. The ones living in delusion were "centrists" extending unbelievably unprobable levels of fake benefetis of the doubt to the right.
- SapporoChris 1y agoOnce might be an accident, but twice is much more damning. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk_salute_controversy#/media/File:Elon_Musk_gesture.gif https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk_salute_controversy#/...
- Revisional_Sin 1y agoIt was clearly a Nazi salute.
- bboygravity 1y agoOk. By that definition other people have done nazi salutes in the past: Hillary Clinton, Obama, etc. plenty of videos of that you can find online. So those don't count, because?
- twelvedogs 1y agoNon of the others looked like they were cunming as they did it, twice
- Revisional_Sin 1y agoNo. There are videos of them waving and pointing. They look nothing like what Musk did.
- postflopclarity 1y agolink a video that remotely resembles what elon did.

- defrost 1y agoYeah ... nope. Before and after unedited context of Elon clearly shows him throwing "a Roman salute" twice. Highly edited footage of Bernie Sanders holding his arming up in greeting as he turns and greets and waves to a crowd is nothing like the gesture made by Elon .. and with a proper unedited context even less so. At least try and provide better footage to support your claim.

- BriggyDwiggs42 1y agoHe might not be a nazi, but he’s honestly pretty dumb. He happens to be very good at getting investments and very lucky.
- mlazos 1y agoIf the neo-nazis celebrate it as a Nazi salute, I don’t think it really matters what others think. In addition to that, seeing it with my own eyes is all the confirmation I need. On his intelligence SpaceX and Tesla were/are revolutionary companies, but seeing him buy twitter and then send the DOGE five things email makes me feel like maybe it was more of a right place right time sort of thing and not management prowess. I’ll give him credit for hiring the right people which is a skill but other than that his blunders are just too difficult to ignore.

- thrance 1y agoAre we still arguing about that? Actual nazis and other mentally ill edgelords clearly though it was a nazi salute, and it's all that matters. A dog whistle with proper deniability, so people like you can still defend him despite the many antisemitic stuff he's been tangled in over the years.

- Jyaif 1y agoI gave him the benefit of the doubt like you, but when you start mimicking his gesture you instantly know what you are about to be do. It's also not a natural or enjoyable gesture, you don't do it accidentally. Regarding his intelligence, he's below average in some areas and above in others. Not a big deal.
- breve 1y ago> Except he never did a nazi salute intentionally. He performed a fascist salute intentionally. He did it twice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smQNNo2a9xc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smQNNo2a9xc
- spacedcowboy 1y ago> Except he never did a nazi salute intentionally Bullshit.
- twelvedogs 1y agoIt was obviously a zeig heil or he did the dumbest pants on head idiotic wave ever, which is it? Given that he immediately after went on a video link with the afd party in Germany I have my suspicions lol
- itsoktocry 1y agoIt was both. It was a joke, but intentional, and because he has little self awareness, had no idea how offensive it was.
- mailund 1y agoI find it unlikely that any functioning adult in western society does not understand that would be incredibly offensive.
- twelvedogs 1y agoI guess we agree he's a racist idiot then
- TheAceOfHearts 1y agoI would feel a bit more charitable if Elon explicitly condemned the Nazis and Nazi-adjacent ideologies. He seems to be having a lot of Nazi-related incidents, and to the best of my knowledge he hasn't explicitly condemned the ideology. He could frame it as "that wasn't a Nazi salute, but I condemn the Nazis and think they're a bunch of losers". How many Nazi-related incidents should it take to merit giving a direct clarification of beliefs?
- archagon 1y agoRead his Twitter for a bit and there’s no way you can come away with the impression of an intelligent man.
- bigyabai 1y agoIt's hard to even game theory what he wanted from it. I'm not a complete Musk detractor, I don't think he's so autistic that he didn't know what he was doing. The only good-faith explanation seems to be that he needed to pull the cord on his progressive image ASAP to fulfill some perverse incentive we don't know about. Something pressured him enough to crack, resulting in awkward performative gestures to try and grab the attention of the media. That, or he's a Strangelove incarnate that managed to hide his proclivities for Nazism up until now.
