Hard to understand by someone as self-interested as yourself, it means that you do something, like take a vaccine, not because you would necessarily die from Covid-19, but because many older people might die from the infectious germs you are spreading around. By doing this for the common good, you help reach herd immunity, and help eradicate the disease. It's a simple concept, much like 'women and children first', a sacrifice that honorable men with character make. That you would whine and complain about a pinprick shows what little character you have, much like a little spoiled child.
