- simianwords 1y agoInteresting perspective.
- mdaniel 1y agoI recall the kerfuffle about (IIRC) llama where the engineer lost his mind thinking they had spawned life in a machine and felt it was "too dangerous to release," so it's not a ludicrous take. I would hope that the first person to ask "LLM Jesus" how many Rs are in strawberry would have torpedoed the religion, but (a) I've seen dumber mind viruses (b) it hasn't yet
- dragonwriter 1y agoIt wasn't Llama (Meta), it was LaMDA (Google). https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/google-engineer-claims-ai-chatbot-is-sentient-why-that-matters/ https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/google-engineer-c...
- mdaniel 1y agoAh, thank you. While reading up on it, I found this juicy bit that I did not recall hearing at the time: > He further revealed that he had been dismissed by Google after he hired an attorney on LaMDA's behalf after the chatbot requested that Lemoine do so.[18][19] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaMDA#Sentience_claims https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaMDA#Sentience_claims Then again, it's plausible that if I asked GPT-5 "do you want me to get you an asylum lawyer?" it may very well say yes
