The states with the lowest homicide rates include a mix of very blue (Massachusetts) and very red (Iowa, Utah). The cause is not "poverty and guns," because Idaho, which has a lot of poverty and a ton of guns, has one-third the homicide rate of Maryland, which is one of the richest and most educated states.
