I agree with this, Neil Postmans "Amusing ourselves to death" is still a good read in 2025. The only antidotes I can imagine are honesty and real community: make whatever you want from this, it should be obvious by now that global cut-throat capitalism does not lead to democracy, or to efficient resource usage (externalization...), or to equality.
