Fun language fact: "daka" is hebrew for "minute" but it's literal meaning is
"thin one" figurative being "the thin (shorter) time measure" in contradiction with an hour ("sha'aa")
- jimkleiber 1y agoFascinating, "dakika" is "minute" in Swahili...probably similar in Arabic as well...yup, Google AI says "daqiqa" for the Latin alphabet version of minute in Arabic.
- drivers99 1y ago"minute" is also "small" pars minuta prima (first small part) -> minute (1/60th of a circle, or of an hour) secunda minuta -> second (1/60 of a minute) minutus -> minute (adj), "very small in size or degree, diminutive or limited, petty" source: etymonline
