Who would be qualified to give an opinion then?
- ninetyninenine 1y agoTons of more qualified people. George Hinton for one. That’s not even the main issue though. I don’t care who he is. The point is this opinion is generic. It’s nothing new. It’s like someone stating “cars use gas, I’ve been driving for 1.5 years and I learned enough to say that cars use gas.”

- ninetyninenine 1y agoYou're dropping that link as if what he says should be dismissed. His opinion is different. Worth reading about. His expertise and knowledge is highly relevant. What he says is also extremely likely and true. I think the sheer amount of hype around AI has turned it into a hallucinating, brain damaged version of a human that everyone likes to scoff at. We're blinded by the significance of what happened here and also blinded at the rate at which this thing is improving in terms of raw intelligence. The LLM is a milestone in human history equivalent to landing on the moon. But thank excessive exposure to this stuff on social media to sort of dampen the significance.
