I don't know why, but when I hear stores like such I wonder how in the hell is it fair for Microsoft to get sued for about $1bn by the "EU" for including Windows Media player and IE in XP (in Europe), but Apple not to be for including iTunes and Safari. And now, pretty much monopolizing the iDevice sync business.
Anybody have an information/insight?
- dangrossman 14y agoYou can't be sued for abusing monopoly power without first having a monopoly in the relevant market, keeping in mind that 'monopoly' and 'relevant market' have specific legal definitions. At the time of those sanctions, Microsoft was deemed to have a monopoly in the "Intel-compatible PC operating system market". AFAIK, there is no market in which Apple is considered to have monopoly power.
