The AI Mirage: July Jobs Report vs. Tech Hiring Truths
- throwawayoldie 1y agoMeta: "AI Agents enable the multiverse" Oooh, I'm one square away from hitting Bullshit Bingo!
- rightbyte 1y agoDoesn't a room filled with those wobble head avatars spawning never ending NPC dialogue sound intriguing? I though LLMs would be awesome to like hide main quests and stuff with long dialogues everywhere, but the more I think about it the more annoying I think that would be. And I mean, when people rearrange some chairs to a phallus they want to know someone is watching. If anything Second Life Metaverse experiences probably wont work very well with rooms filled of bots.
- throwawayoldie 1y agoIt definitely sounds intriguing, in the same sense that a bad car accident is intriguing.

- robwwilliams 1y agoConfused arguments. H1B visa holders are not “off shore”. They live and pay taxes in the USA. The big tech companies are hungry for talent and compete world-wide to hire the best. It is not about shafting older US engineers. The AI angle may be a distraction they use but the main argument in this article is likely to be just wrong.
- wredcoll 1y ago> The big tech companies are hungry for talent and compete world-wide to hire the best. Are you sure you didn't mean "cheapest"?
- robwwilliams 1y agoYes
- throwawayoldie 1y agoThat's bullshit. It's about having talent they can exploit under the threat of losing their visa.
- robwwilliams 1y agoNo it is not. At least not a Microsoft which was flagged in the piece we are talking about, right?
