Advent of Code needs to get rid of that stupid leaderboard and display winning entrants' names alphabetically. It's not even slightly a fair competition, an entire swath of people are out of the running simply because they are too tired at 11pm (or busy with their kids etc) to solve a little puzzle. I think anyone trying to "compete" in AoC needs to reassess their priorities. Also, I like reading the "flavor text" about the elves and whatnot. Encouraging people to ignore it seems at odds with the design of AoC.
