Why a backend? What's wrong with just a directory hierarchy?

  You can’t run yt-dlp from a browser. So the backend listens for a message from the browser for which video to download.

    Oh. I guessed it's doing its own downloading but if it isn't, it makes sense.

  DRM, you can't just save the video easily.
