There shouldn't be any "israeli population" in the West Bank. To a large extent it is armed and commonly also in uniform, without being in IDF service.
From 1999 to 2018 colonial population in the West Bank grew from ~177000 to ~430000 or so. Since the current israeli government took power they've massively accelerated colonial efforts in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and also moved away from military administration in a blatant rejection of international law. I.e. before the response from Hamas in October 2023.
Hamas are popular because they've achieved results, and are perceived as relatively moderate and flexible in politics. Their main competitor, PIJ, disavows parliamentary politics entirely as long as the occupation is in place, considering it a waste of resources and naive pandering to foreign governments that they have no faith in.
- tguvot 1y agoyou failed to write how much settlement grew. can't find any data about it ?
- cess11 1y agoWhy did you fail to read my comment? https://www.statista.com/chart/20001/number-of-israeli-settlers-living-in-the-west-bank-by-year/ https://www.statista.com/chart/20001/number-of-israeli-settl... https://peacenow.org.il/en/settlements-watch/settlements-data/population https://peacenow.org.il/en/settlements-watch/settlements-dat... This excludes a few hundreds of thousands in East Jerusalem. According to international law all of these people must be relocated to israeli territory. If I have understood it correctly the UN GA has given Israel a deadline for this in September.
- tguvot 1y agoPopulation expansion doesn't imply area expansion. People in Israel procreate. Could you articulate how much in acres settlements expanded in past 20 years. Year over year or something. Or in total
- cess11 1y agoGet to your point. There should be zero so called settlements. Nil. None. They must all be removed. This is the law.
- tguvot 1y agoso settlements do not expand ?

- mardifoufs 1y agoBut those aren't people in Israel. They are settlers in land that they are illegally settling, outside of Israel. And you can also read the other comment, you can see that even the area has increased. Is your argument really that the Likud, the extremely pro settler party... Didn't expand settlements? You should go tell that to Netanyahu, that would be insulting to him. And I guess this doesn't matter either, it's just the parliament of Israel showing how it treats Palestinians that stop fighting: https://www.timesofisrael.com/knesset-votes-71-13-for-non-binding-motion-calling-to-annex-west-bank/ https://www.timesofisrael.com/knesset-votes-71-13-for-non-bi...
