Anyone who relies on (for example) Oracle Database on Linux. Not so much for the compatibility itself (oracle do maintain their software), but because it builds trust between the Linux kernel team and the software vendors who are shipping stuff on top. If it wasn't for this promise, I think it's much less likely that people happily developing for Unix would have moved over to Linux
