  Instead of downvoting, why not explain why this is an appropriate link for HN? It's not even an article, and has no context. Therefore seeing it made me question my assumptions about HN.

    I didn't downvote you, but my hunch would be it was due to the somewhat snarky nature of your comment. The occasionally dogmatic enforcement of protocol can be grating, but it does serve a legitimate purpose. For what it's worth, I also felt this post didn't deserve to be on the front page. I can't really remember the last time I clicked on a more uninformative link.
