There's no shot this will gain any traction, it would kill the US AI industry on the spot. And Trump has already signaled that he intends to allow AI companies to do whatever they want when it comes to content scraping, if only to allow them to be competitive with China.
But I'm curious, what do people think of this? It does feel like there should be some compromise. If copyright duration was shortened down to something more reasonable I'd be more sympathetic to limiting AI scraping.
- JohnFen 1y ago> It does feel like there should be some compromise. Why? It's a serious question. Why should a business exist if the only way it's feasible is to violate other people? I think there needs to be some protection against AI scrapers. That it's impossible to protect against them means that it's not feasible for me to have anything substantial on the public web at all. That's why I removed my sites and code once it became clear that AI companies were doing this and there was no defense against it. I would be thrilled if it became possible to substantially engage on the web again.
