Since 2018 every new car needs a rearview backup camera. Since 2022, AEB's been included, too. Fuel economy and emissions standards are also considerably stricter than they were 10 years ago. The list goes on, and on, and on. I think it's completely fair to say we haven't gotten worse at making cheap cars, we've just legislated them out of existence.
