Yeah, this industry is by definition self-taught. Unless you're getting your boss to read you documentation and Google answers for you. There are a lot of people who do a CS degree purely for money reasons, but I've found those people turn into PMs while the engineers have an actual interest in engineering. It's torturous to do a very mentally difficult job that you don't even want to do, and those people pivot to other adjacent careers.
