My anecdotal take: I paid for GamePass for years and it saved me money every year. Since I stopped paying for it, I've spent an equivalent amount of money on Steam but spend fewer hours playing on a smaller count of games (and I've requested refunds on multiple games). I'm probably not an average gamer in the sense that I don't particularly care about playing games when they come out, and I've played many "big title" games months or years after their release because they became available on GamePass, but in general, I feel like my GamePass experience was better value than Steam and I'm considering resubscribing.
