The Time Someone Plagiarized Calvin and Hobbes and Nobody Noticed or Cared
- ThrowawayR2 1y ago> "... because few of the people making a living at newspaper comics have ever thought of it as art, let alone the audience." Whoa, yeah, no. Plagiarism or not, I'm not inclined to take the author seriously after that.

- PaulHoule 1y agoI dunno. My son and I the other day were thinking that could be more people in the United States who are interested in anime than are interested in the Calarts junk we get subjected to. Sure, Spongebob Squarepants got "good" ratings because it was always on. The interest that people show at the box office for the latest Marvel and DC films seems to show the audience isn't really there.
- themadturk 1y agoThis just went on forever and I quit caring, but he does have a point about the Sally Forth cartoonist not being any good at all at portraying emotion. I also wonder, is it really plagiarism? What is anyone supposed to say and do when they discover a break-in, cartoon character or not? Nor are there any Sally Forth children worried about the fate of their stuffed tigers. This is the real point of the Calvin and Hobbes panel, and it's not even hinted at in the Sally Forth panel.
- tanaros 1y agoIf you look at the side-by-side [1], it looks pretty plagiarized to me. They changed the words a bit but the overall plot and themes are essentially identical. [1] https://viruscomix.com/evidence.png https://viruscomix.com/evidence.png
- ahazred8ta 1y agoAs opposed to actual parody of Calvin and Hobbes (... the originals) https://web.archive.org/web/20161020011740/https://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/712/658/a83.jpg https://web.archive.org/web/20161020011740/https://i1.kym-cd...
