Elon Musk Forms a New Political Party to Challenge Trump and the Republicans
- fracus 1y agoNow I'm trying to decide which of the two I hate the least. I would guess I'd hate Musk's policies the least.
- TheAlchemist 1y agoAs per his own quote, "The most entertaining outcome is the most likely". If he really goes on with creating this party, this outcome shall be very entertaining one way or another, I will give him that.
- chillingeffect 1y agoBut who is left that likes him? Is this a republican split?
- saubeidl 1y agoThink I found one voter at the very least: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44469107 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44469107
- toomuchtodo 1y agoGoodness, it would be wild for Altman and Musk to come together to battle the two party establishment, even if just for show or the lulz.
- codingdave 1y agoIf he were truly trying to challenge Trump, he would do what he said a few days ago and use his money to primary all Republicans currently in office. Anything else is pure theatre.
- xqcgrek2 1y agoHe's going to end up in jail or deported at this rate. The current crop of politicians have no inhibitions to do what they please irrespective of laws.
- krapp 1y agoHe's white. He'll be fine.
- Finnucane 1y agoyes, the alternative to a party led by a narcissistic megalomaniacal fascist and racist billionaire is a party led by . . . ?
- palata 1y ago> The “America Party,” he indicated, will not attempt to win every election but will instead target a select number of crucial races with highly concentrated efforts. "Highly concentrated efforts" meaning "whatever makes Musk richer", of course.
- IAmGraydon 1y agoElon Musk has made a post on X, not a new party. There have been no requests by him to actually register anything.
- saubeidl 1y agoIt appears there have been, actually: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:moye3apncjjbyqgb7orp5quj/post/3ltaup36zr22t https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:moye3apncjjbyqgb7orp5quj/po...
- rsynnott 1y agoI feel like the there's a fairly limited market for people who like Musk but do not like Trump.
- SnowProblem 1y agoThere's a pretty large market for people who mostly like Trump but side with Musk on balancing the budget and don't trust Repubs to get there.
- rsynnott 1y agoSee, this is the thing, I don't think there is. Like, maybe low single-digit percentages, but Trump is very good at getting his people to fall in line, and balancing the budget, for most Republicans, seems to be more a kind of symbolic creed than an actual goal. If one was serious about balancing the budget, why would one vote for Trump, who, remember, _already_ massively expanded the deficit in his first term?
