I always assumed it was due to a lot of Americans thinking "middle eastern" has a negative connotation.
- microtherion 1y agoYeah, back in Europe, I used to associate "Mediterranean Cuisine" with Greek, Italian, Spanish, and possibly Portuguese (geographical reality aside).
