This article seems to be linkbait. At any rate, users that don't want to migrate to Windows 8 will stay on Windows 7, not migrate to Linux Mint with Xfce.

- jeffool 14y agoEh. I can buy people being willing to sample Linux given outside influences like Steam. There just has to be a good PR push and easy enough means packaged for them to do so.
- bediger4000 14y agoYou forget the impact of computer viruses on Windows migrations. In 1997, I had some friends with Windows 3.11 boxes, absolutely loaded with games and other software. They loved Windows 3.11, but were preparing to migrate to Windows 97 because all the "Anti-virus" vendors no longer supported Windows 3.11, and the Windows 3.11 malware was eating them alive.
- adamnemecek 14y agoI think that viruses stopped being a threat sometime around 2003.
- facorreia 14y agoIf consumers migrated in mass to Linux we'd see as big a botnet there as the OSX one.
- r00fus 14y agoI think the upthread comment was referencing malware in general. You're right that "viruses" are no longer a major threat (most are worms or trojans) but malware in general is still a huge issue, and Windows is the biggest target.
