It really depends on your personality doesn't it? If I was travelling for a week I would take one pair of trousers, the ones I am wearing on the plane. One pair of shoes, maybe two outers, one shirt/pants/socks per day. If you need more then a backpack isn't going to work. Can take even less if you do laundry once at the half way point.
