Has nobody pointed out the obvious hypocrisy/contradiction of your entire overall statement and the behavior, actions, language, rhetoric, personal and professional writing of the current leader of the small r party?
If I recall correctly, and I do, he thought it was funny to post an AI image of of him on the cover of time magazine "for real" instead of parody - it was captioned, "long live the king" - thats many levels higher than sir, especially considering he was being called out for unconstitutional overstepping of his authority - to which he wants the courts to ignore.
That's easily the most monarchical an American President has ever acted.
He also named his kid Baron - also a title, also worse than sir.
- ahartmetz 1y agoMaybe the small-r republican is more about the republic and less about the Trump party?
- profsummergig 1y agoFrom Merriam Webster: of or relating to a republic, rather than to a monarchy, tyranny, oligarchy, etc.
- NemoNobody 1y agoOk. So, what does that mean to the average American? I'm curious how many of us know that the US is a republic and of them how many know what that means. This is rather humorous almost as the term is essentially meaningless in a world where republicanism won the day and democracy is almost everywhere. A word that appears to provide validity for the Republican party in its anti elite roots - despite the party being the party of the elite now. That's both problematic and completely unnecessary to even mention. America is a Democracy. The Republican Party is on its last legs - republicanism, as it can only be interpreted by most Americans, as the ideology of Republicans ;) - also dead. I'm hoping for at least 2 generations where people are so triggered by the words conservative and the ilk - that we again learn why that's actually a good thing, when used appropriately, sometimes. Very conditionally. I personally am very sick of treading water as a society and civilization. Evolutionarily speaking, stagnant life, is dead already.
- profsummergig 1y ago> So, what does that mean to the average American? Don't know, don't care. Educated, high-IQ people know what it means. The kind I was targeting my original comment to. Because it's HN. I expected people knew what it means on here. And apparently the educated, high-IQ ones do.
- tomhow 1y agoPlease don't post comments like this on HN. It's not a place for elitism.
- profsummergig 1y agoWill do. Appreciate the guidance.
- tomhow 1y agoMany thanks!
- agency 1y agoThere is no small r party. The point of saying "small r" is to distinguish the political ideology of republicanism[1] from the "big R" Republican Party™ [1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republicanism_in_the_United_Kingdom https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republicanism_in_the_United_...
- NemoNobody 1y agoHaha, oh yeah - I'm on hacker news right now. I'll just come clean and explain what I'm doing, and am seeing many others do - as if we all had a meeting (but we didn't) I'm trying to make certain that the Grand Ole Party d1es with Trumpism - that's not hard bc Trumpers truly did takeover that party... I also want "conservative" and "conservatism" to irreconcilably be connected to Trumpism. Being that nobody has really talked about conservativism for 15 years - a Neocon is essentially Trumper in functional practice regardless. Neoconservatives and their ism was also after conservative - so for real, nobody knows even what that actually is anymore - so it's not hard to bind all these things together, as it politically appears to be now. I've had some hilarious back and forth with Trumper trolls as I connect Trump with Alpha/Beta/bullshit, the rise of Christian Nationalists and women owned by their husbands with right to cook and be mothers. I'm trying to take advantage of the best opportunity in my lifetime to take out all the trash of our society. I'd say that's essentially done and over already actually - there are few things that haven't happened yet, but bc nothing will ever return to normal - ALL those ideas that get connected now to Trump will be lifelong reviled by the vast majority of our ill informed electorate... well, increasingly further and further left informed electorate. They will no longer have ears for the right's pitch/political take. Small r or otherwise Republicanism is going the way of the Whigs. I'm actually serious. I think leaders have outlived their necessities and now their downsides outweigh their gains - in general, across the board globally, the majority of leaders are more problematic than their people. Trump, Putin and Bibi are great examples. How would Russia have invaded Ukraine without Putin? How could Israel attack Iran and cleanse Gazans (I call them that on purpose) without Bibi? How could the US be cancelled by Canada without Trump? How many stupid American tik toks would it take to topple an 80 year global order?? It doesn't matter. It took only one Trump. Small r Republicanism - that's also incredibly dated. And I will take absolutely no time at all to explain (confuse) the majority of "non political" people that there is a difference. Let's do new some new shit maybe? I want a New America with a parliamentary government with twice the number of Senators, 3 times the Reps, and 21 Supreme Court Justices - the Chief elected in a general election on the off year to the President. I also don't want out politicians from ever being able to invest in the markets, or owning property while in office, or spending any money out of a personal bank account - ALL expenses are paid by the people, even shit like porn, but WE ALL can pull that account up and see how the political elites and their families spend our money, obviously screened for security shit. When they leave office they can access all of their earnings made while in office (ought to make them leave faster too ;) They should get a higher salary also and we should build Governor style mansions for the Senator positions and McMansion sized homes for the Reps positions - all befitting their position in our society. Their home goes up for sale tho when they win the election. Anyways, I'm putting more together - I literally want a new America, a better one, and one free from all the chains of these ideas that have long hindered far more than they ever once helped. All Red Party stuff is going down with Trump - haha, even the little r
- Hasnep 1y agoDo you think the US's Republican party is spelt with a small r?
- NemoNobody 1y agoI understand but it doesn't really matter bc the general public doesn't. As it sits, (R)epublicans bad but (r)epublicans good isn't something I feel like explaining and I don't need to. In fact, were the majority able to make such distinction politically, they might be less inclined to lump all the right side of the aisle positions, together in a single basket - I really want everyone to throw away their baskets filled with all the old world problems our ancestors left for us - republicanism, small r even, is still thinking that is directly part of the chain of responsibility that brought us to our current system of systemic failures. I just want to talk about how all that old thinking is to blame for all our ills. The I want to make the Democrats more actually left than the American Socialists of the past. This is the death of centrism also in America - hence the OPs reminder and my extreme attack to disregard that position. This world is broken - I think we should fix it, but like a broken engine in a car, fixing it means getting something new - bc not only will new ought to work much better than the old and broken motor - I'm not willing to repair that old engine, even if it can be, the costs, and what I will have after them, (just to do it all again) isn't worth it to me. I still want to drive the car tho, so it needs a new engine. America needs an America that works for all of us. We need the engine of the greatest economy in history, that now only greatly benefits less than 1,000 of us Americans - at the literal and actual expense of the 350,000,000 people - we need that wealth spread out more. It's our failure as a society to have allowed the bottom half of Americans to account for only 2.5% of the country's economic activity, of our country's wealth - 175,000,000 combined have so little wealth compared to the 980, it's hard to explain. There is no other thing in our world that we would distributed the same proportional way. Humans don't think rationally about money tho, or their ability to make it beyond the position that they started in. Every few generations one comes along that turns on a dime, like a tipping points is hit during their lives, and everything changes - this happens everywhere on earth but it happened in America, under FDR, where the parties literally switched electorates and platforms til they became as they are now. In 2028, I think it will be very difficult to identify as a Republican, conservative, etc. outside of the Trumper doe hards - sub-25ish % of the general population at best, sp they will win 0 elections. They will make certain the GOP becomes the Trumper Party forever in our heads as try keep on Trumping. By 2030, all the rich that give them money - will be giving to the party that replaces them. I'm hoping the billionaires panic and go before 26/28 with the GOP replacement, bc obviously they want to do that after the pendulum swings further left than it ever has... But, if it goes waaaay left - they (rich people) might not be in a position anymore to afford creating or buying off an entirely new party. If they go before Trump leaves - they will just go out with all that trash. Haha, I'm ranting here but that's for those that that read this bc they want to and bc they don't. This isn't a bad time to be an American - it's one of the best. We will right these wrongs. Fix our society, economy, and government and do all that in a way that no country on earth has ever done before - but all of them someday will. We can be happy here again - I'm serious. Not happy bc your better off than most, or some, or happy bc you aren't at work, or happy bc your setup from a lifetime of work, or happy bc you have work. I mean actually happy. Actual happiness is removed from money and work. We would know that, and be happier, if our America wasn't setup to benefit 980 some people, on all of our backs. Haha, I'm done now. Just my rant for the week.
