The alpha centari manual was a beast, a regular novel at ~250 pages. Your comment stirred a memory in the back of my head and I jumped up to check, and I still have it! I found it on my book shelf! Baldurs gate 2 had a similarly impressive manual, if I remember correctly, it was spiral bound so it would lay flat and had tabbed sections. can't find it however.
