Solving the coordination problem in FOSS is one of the grand challenges of humanity. If we solve it, I think it will effect a tectonic shift with far reaching implications and fixes major socioeconomic problems like wealth concentration. Eg: a FOSS alternative to Visa, and of course Windows/MS Office.

- dcreater 1y agoWhat is? I agree that there is a lot more to this industry than software but that is the first foundational/enabling piece. They may have a duopoly currently but its a matter of when, not if, that it is broken
- yencabulator 1y agoIf Visa loses its position, it'll be replaced by something fairly similar. It serves the interests of the system. Why? Unchecked capitalism, lobbying, corruption, politics, societal needs[1], realpolitik[2]. [1]: E.g. legal system requiring KYC to investigate money laundering. [2]: In the positive sense; see items 2-4 for the negative sense.
