Sunsonic 986-II – A Thai Famicom clone with keyboard and mini CRT built-in
- esafak 1y agoVery nice. I miss the diversity of the era. Can you imagine a Thai gaming console today?
- nine_k 1y agoSomewhere on Kickstarter possibly. But it's hard to search for, unless you can read and write Thai.
- spankibalt 1y agoLooks better than an N64, lol.
- utopcell 1y agoAny idea what that color crt was before it got transplanted?
- rasz 1y agoI think that picture is just misleading due to angle. CRT on other pictures appears to have blue tingle to it making it seem like its not BW https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/1lc73jf/sonsonic_famicom_with_crt_builtin/ https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/1lc73jf/sonsonic...
- glimshe 1y agoA console from an alternative timeline where minimalist design and "clean" lost and "maximalist" gadgets full of keys, lights, switches and low priority features won. All due to the influence from the timeline's visionary, the anti-Steve Jobs.
- closewith 1y ago> the anti-Steve Jobs. Aeschines Hobby?
- chvid 1y agoI love the over the top aesthetics of the Thais. In many ways Thailand is the yin to the yang of Japan when it comes to style and design. Let’s hope for the day where the Thais rule consumer electronics like the Japanese once did :-D
- ourmandave 1y agoThe whole design of the Famicom was minimalism because they wanted a price way under the competition to take over the market. Yamauchi tasked Uemura with developing a system that would be superior to its competitors and difficult to replicate for at least a year. Uemura's main challenge was economic rather than technological; Yamauchi wanted the system to be affordable enough for widespread household adoption. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Entertainment_System https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Entertainment_System
- nxobject 1y agoThis might be a localization of a Chinese (PRC) original product designed to make the Famicom pass restrictions on games hardware - but in any case there were many variants on this design from many manufacturers. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberDeck/comments/1h7z2kn/chinese_educational_computers_from_the_1990s_they/ https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberDeck/comments/1h7z2kn/chinese_...
- alnwlsn 1y agoThe OP posted some more pictures of this to Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/vintagecomputing/comments/1lf383e/ https://www.reddit.com/r/vintagecomputing/comments/1lf383e/
- omoikane 1y agoIt's weird how it says "Thai and English Computer" on the front but the ports are labeled with simplified Chinese on the back.
