If Google Chat is down per https://www.google.com/appsstatus/dashboard/ https://www.google.com/appsstatus/dashboard/, the ability for Google engineers to communicate among themselves impaired, despite SREs having IRC as a backup.
- iamdelirium 1y agoGoogle Chat wasn't down for me throughout the entire incident.
- miohtama 1y agoSomeone actually uses Google Chat...?
- 00deadbeef 1y agoGoogle has a chat product?
- asadm 1y agoit's the best
- ZiiS 1y agoWell given how many they have decommissioned...

- leoh 1y agoAlmost everyone inside Google
- sebzim4500 1y agoTIL Google chat hasn't been killed yet
- bananapub 1y agoit at least used to be standard and fairly well known practice for non-sres to use the irc bridge. the much more disastrous situation would have been the irm fallback.
- donalhunt 1y agoThey have irc services internally (or at least did when I was there 10-ish years ago).
