Just in case you misinterpreted my story, I think it was 100% correct and proper for the US to ask my family to leave, apply for permission to come back legally and finally do so. My parents did not do the right thing by overstaying their visa and working. In other words, I do not agree that they should have been allowed to stay. When they did obtain authorization they had to agree to not be a burden to US taxpayers for five years. I also agree with this. Legal and orderly immigration is essential for societies to function. This is true everywhere on this planet.
