Ask HN: What are the first 6 months like in a startup incubator?

I am trying to get a startup going. I am wondering how people have managed their $20K investment from incubators and how long it takes to get VC funding. I have very little savings and am tyring to plan my next few months. I'll be in Portland and am not sure how long it will be before a seed round or series A. Thanks!
