Eight US states seek to outlaw chemtrails – even though they aren't real
- antibull 1y agoAtmospheric aerosol injection is absolutely real. Bill Gates said it's going to be used to block out the sun and reflect solar radiation back out to space. The guardian is not a legit news organization.
- audunw 1y agoThe hysteria that has triggered this kind of legislation is based on an idea of chemtrails that are absolutely not real. The legislation itself is also targeting something which is not yet real. Nobody is actually doing geo-engineering on a scale that matters for climate. There’s only small scale tests. And it’d be recklessly dumb to prohibit tests to figure out the impact of this kind of geo-engineering. We may need it if the global warming gets out of hand. Testing isn’t going to hurt anyone and will only give us more options to tackle challenges we may face in the future. Nobody is going to start an actual geo-engineering project without wide scale democratic support (on the federal level in the case of US). So this kind of legislation is a giant waste of time. It’s not in any way normal to try to ban something which hasn’t yet occurred, and if it ends up occurring, is probably because we really need to do that thing.
- bell-cot 1y agoUm, yes? America's government, corporations, and other traditional authority institutions have - in the minds of millions of unfortunate Americans - burned through whatever respect or trust they once had. And whether you read "chemtrails" as literal or metaphorical, those "victims of the system" are feeling much like caged rats in a back room at Dystopia Labs. If you're interested in improving the situation (vs. scoring points), don't mock the belief, nor the believers.
- JohnFen 1y agoSaying that someone's beliefs are not rooted in reality is not mocking them. What would you suggest to improve the situation?
- bell-cot 1y ago> Saying that someone's beliefs are not rooted in reality is not mocking them. They might feel otherwise. > What would you suggest ... Ideally, economic & social changes to make America's 99% feel less used, abused, and hopeless. At n=1 scale - tell 'em that in the big picture, they are perfectly correct. But down in the gritty how-to technology details, the chemtrails are just a red herring. The actual control is endless brain-bending advertising and journalists & lawmakers who somehow never care about ordinary Americans and lies before every election and maliciously twisted social media feeds and politicians who only give a crap about the rich and propaganda-laced "news" and turning the economic screws tighter & tighter on honest working people and stuff like that.
- JohnFen 1y ago> They might feel otherwise. They might, but that's just another thing they're wrong about. Mocking someone is making fun of them, ridiculing them, calling them stupid and such. Just pointing out that they're wrong is not mocking. If it's no longer possible to tell people when they're wrong, we're doomed. I value when people point out that I'm wrong and if that stopped, I would be poorer for it.
