What does it mean to have a patent for a gene?
- cheald 14y ago"The conditions of Myriad’s BRCA patent require that the only laboratories legally allowed to test and sequence the genes are the ones affiliated with Myriad." (via Wikipedia)
- mbreese 14y agoIt really isn't a patent for a "gene". You don't have to pay them a licensing fee if you have that gene mutation. But, if you want to find out if you have the gene, then you have to pay for their test.
