What’s “real open source” to you? I have a niche project useful to a small audience (grocery prices crawler for Croatian stores), 70ish stars, 10 or so forks, a few contributors, AGPL licensed.
I used AI a lot (vibe coding for spikes and throwaway tools, AI-assisted coding for prod code, chatgpt sessions to optimize db schema and queries, etc). I’d say some 80% or more of the code was written by Claude and reviewed by me.
It has not only sped up the development, but as a side project, I would never even have finished it (deployed to prod with enough features to be useful) without AI.
Now you can say that doesn’t count because it’s a side project, or because I’m bullish on AI (I am, without jumping on the hype train), or because it’s too small, or because I haven’t blogged about it, or because anecdotes are not data, and I will readily admit I’m not a true Scotsman.
