AFAIK in a pure 'parimutuel' setup ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parimutuel_betting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parimutuel_betting ) the house is never exposed, and if this holds I see no reason for someone understanding this to place a non-parimutuel bet.
