That is literally part of the deal of not living in a literal dictatorship. It is your responsibility to solve societal problems. I mean, geeze what did they teach in civic classes in your generation?
- lazyasciiart 1y agoSo if you believe that it is your individual responsibility to solve societal problems, and assuming you believe in the possibility of human-driven mitigation of climate change: presumably you individually are solving that, by devoting your life to it? Or do you not really mean it's your individual responsibility?
- ccorcos 1y agoPeople have freedom to choose their responsibilities. Some choose to work on solving society’s problems, others don’t. What’s a better alternative?
- lazyasciiart 1y agoYou're saying it isn't their responsibility.
- ccorcos 1y agoNo, I'm saying that we all have our opinions and we need to be careful about who gets the power to tell others what to do. You might think that we are collectively responsible for solving climate change, and someone else might think that we are collectively responsible for ending the murder of unborn children via abortion or any number of other things. So who gets to be the dictator of whom? If we are all going to live together in harmony, we have to be tolerant of diversity. That doesn't take away any freedom from you to take responsibility. And it preserves other's freedom as well.
