I don't think AI is a sham, but I would like to see more effort to quantify AI's improvements to productivity and practical applications - rather than countless charts detailing the increasing watts and flops and GPUs and dollars being dedicated to AI. I have zero doubt that companies are spending a lot of resources on AI. It's difficult to exist in society and not recognize that. There were a few practical use cases mentioned here, but the only quantified impact to worker productivity from LLMs that I noticed was a single study of call center agents from 2023 that showed a 14% increase in cases handled per hour.
