In some ways, there hasn't been a _ton_ of truly novel and exciting developments in computer science for awhile now. From that perspective (and despite all the annoying hype) - deep learning _is_ super cool and exciting. I mean Alan Turing talked about ideas so similar to this all the way back in the 50's and it's finally coming to fruition! I can understand why you're looking elsewhere - but I figured I'd reframe the context for those who are passionate about deep learning and have no control over the hype.
