I braved out and got the latest x1 carbon, and I've been rather happy. Battery life with latest kernels is quite ok (although obviously not macbook level) and nearly everything seems to work quite nicely. Only weird part is the slow throttle up that happens after sleep. Seems like the machine is at 400MHz for half a minute before actually waking up.
