Visual programming (NoCode/LowCode) tools have been very successful in quite a few domains. Animation, signal processing, data wrangling etc. But they have not been successful for general purpose programming, and I don't think they ever will be. More on this perenial HN topic at:

- hackable_sand 1y agoUnreal blueprints are an example of graphical abstractions that are very successful for designer-coder workflows. I would bet on those against your assertion.
- hermitcrab 1y agoUnreal blueprints is very successful in it's intended domain. But it isn't intended for general purpose programming. No-one is going to code a banking system in Unreal blueprints and it won't be replacing C++, Java or javascript.
- hackable_sand 1y agoAs a counterpoint you very well could whip up a UI and make a web-enabled desktop app using blueprints, but I digress.
