Why put Hungary in scare quotes? It's right wing nationalist and undermining our (Europe's) defence against the ultrafascist Russian hordes invading from the East. It's not the same.

- genewitch 1y agoSame thing this time around, Germany is oiling the war machine to march through Poland and fight Russia again, as we comment.
- myko 1y agoAm I missing a joke here? Putin is quite literally involved in a war of conquest he started in the European continent. America is, as usual, not coming to help anytime soon (America may eventually, but right now the government looks more likely to cheer Putin on than help Europe prevent this).
- throwawaythekey 1y agoNot sure but molotov-ribbentrop provides an interesting precedent.
- johnisgood 1y agoHow did you come to this conclusion? By Hungary's refusal to send weapons and money to fund the war?
- twixfel 1y agoNo. I don't care if Hungary doesn't want to defend Europe, but it shouldn't get in the way of others doing do. It shouldn't block sanctions, it shouldn't block funds going to Ukraine. Europe is under attack and Hungary is implicitly helping Russia.
- johnisgood 1y ago"defend Europe"?
- twixfel 1y agoYes. Defend Europe. There's a war in Ukraine, not sure if you've heard. Russia invaded Ukraine and is seeking to annex it. Hope that helps.
- johnisgood 1y agoThen you meant to say Ukraine, not Europe. It is not like Russia is going to attempt to conquer Europe, is it? Additionally, there are historical reasons for what is going on between Russia and Ukraine. I am sure you have heard of it, or perhaps have a distorted view of it. It is between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine is not even part of EU. The EU has nothing to worry about. We might though.
- twixfel 1y agoNo, not at all. I meant to say Europe. The attack on Ukraine is an attack on Europe. I meant exactly what I said. > Additionally, there are historical reasons for what is going on between Russia and Ukraine And there are historical reasons why Europe cares about what is going on between Russia and Ukraine. Sorry but not only Russia gets to have "historical reasons" and "interests". We all do. Europe does too. Sorry if that upsets you and think Russia is the main character. And sadly Russia's attacks on Europe are not limited to Ukraine. For example they have been doing chemical attacks in the UK before the full scale invasion of Ukraine. > It is not like Russia is going to attempt to conquer Europe, is it? It doesn't have to in order to be a threat to Europe. That's the thing about power. > We might though Who's "we"? What's sad is how cucked the Hungarians are. Is there a more tragic country? Backed the wrong horse 1914-18, then again 39-45, then again in the cold war, and now again during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. What a tragic place. Literally always on the wrong side of history. I guess if there was ever any doubt that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is wrong, it's that Hungary supports said invasion. Hey, but it also means it will fail, because everything Hungary seems to touch turns to shit :)
