No you don't. You can use your own web-hosting or web-syncing solutions. I just use Git. There's an excellent (and free) plugin on Obsidian exactly for this reason.
- stavros 1y agoDoes this plugin let me export Obsidian notes as a website? Would you happen to remember the name?
- supermatt 1y agothat sounds like "extra steps" to me... and you still need somewhere to sync to and serve from...
- j_maffe 1y agoI never said Obsidian doesn't require extra steps to setup sync without paying. Do you happen to know one that also allows you to save locally and have back-linking features?
- j_maffe 1y agoAlso with Github you can have a private repo for free with which you can host and sync your files.
- genewitch 1y agoI thought private repos were the ones that required patment, did that change?
- j_maffe 1y agoI think there's a limit on the number of private limit. I personally never hit that limit.
- simonw 1y agoThey made unlimited private repos available to free accounts with up to 3 collaborators in 2019: https://github.blog/news-insights/product-news/new-year-new-github/ https://github.blog/news-insights/product-news/new-year-new-... Then for unlimited collaborators in 2020: https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/learning-about-github/faq-about-changes-to-githubs-plans https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/learning-about-github...
