I have similar feelings about voice messages over chat apps. I pretty nearly always read it as "my time is more valuable than yours" especially if it's long. Listening on 2x speed is not as good as skim reading. It should go without saying that I make an exception for people with disabilities.
- chrismorgan 1y agoI moved to India and married an Indian last year. She and her coworkers are much less literate than me. (On the other hand, I can’t speak four languages!) They use voice messages in WhatsApp quite a bit, and I can see their value for such people. For my part, such is my preference for text I hadn’t even noticed audio messages were a thing—I was genuinely blind to that honkin’ big button!
