One look at this site's home page should show it's a questionable source. But I was puzzled by this:
> Egyptian regular forces did poorly against Yemeni irregulars in the 1960s.
Don't they speak... Arabic in Yemen?
- bumbledraven 1y agoYes they do, but keep in mind the distinction between "armies" and "irregulars". The first two sentences in the article are: > Arabic-speaking armies have been generally ineffective in the modern era. Egyptian regular forces did poorly against Yemeni irregulars in the 1960s.
- Arnt 1y agoThe title of that thing isn't "Arabs always lose", and if you read it closely, you may notice that it doesn't apply to irregular forces like the houthi. Two regular Arab armies arguably lost against the Houthi: Yemen and Saudi Arabia. You can argue the matter in differnent ways. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi-led_intervention_in_the_Yemeni_civil_war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi-led_intervention_in_the_... goes into much detail.
