  I don't condone what he did, but... 1. His intention wasn't to destroy in order to build resilience. 2. His targets weren't random.

    He saw a tech-dependent society as being fragile. Towards the end of the book he talked about subverting the current system which he clearly wanted to destroy before it got out of hand.

      I was going for something more like a well-timed stress test, and less like a program of willful destruction.
