Dont think there have been any financial bail requirements in the UK since the late 1800s.
- Finbarr 1y agoSlavery was also abolished in the UK in 1833. Cash bail is an anachronism that makes a bunch of money at the expense of society's undesirables, so little progress is made on fixing it. See also the private prison system.
- razakel 1y agoThe Bail Act 1976 says you get bail by default, unless it's a serious offence, in which case you'd be remanded.
