Personally, as an optimist, I don't like this because I feel like there is always an exception to the rule. Don't get me wrong, this article has good points, in general, but I just don't like the pessimistic view of the title -- "Why you can't be anything you want to be."
- thwarted 14y agoIf the rule is everyone can be what they want to be, that doesn't bode well for those that end up as the exceptions. And as you say, there are always exceptions.
- bluetidepro 14y agoThat is very true, but I also see it as being the lesser of two evils. I, personally, would much rather like the idea that if I work towards something with goals, hard-work, etc. that I can be the rule. Instead of just giving up before even trying because "I think I'll always just be an exception". If you follow what I mean? I guess it's somewhat of a catch 22.
