From what I can tell, the biggest issue was regaining weight after stopping counting calories. Services like Noom likely ate a big chunk of their market share since they focus on underlying habits and mental health issues to make the transformation more sustainable. Weight Watchers also had a very old school MLM vibe that made it hard to attract younger generations. I'm kinda surprised they lasted this long.
